How to Detox and Revive Your Skin After a Day at the Beach #BloggingFL

20140302_145822Let’s say you plan the perfect getaway to a gorgeous white-sand beach. Maybe you’ll spend the day relaxing on one of my favorite stretches of sand on the Gulf of Mexico in Clearwater Beach. Or you’ll hit the west coast of Florida for a little R&R on the Atlantic Ocean. Either way, and I can’t stress this enough, you absolutely must take measures to protect your skin, pre and post beach hang out.

Let’s start with prepping for your time on the sand.

You already know what I’m going to say: SPF baby. Lather it up and smooth it on head to toe. And I don’t want any excuses. None of this, oh but I tan really well and I don’t need to wear sunscreen. First of all, I’m jealous because the only way I can get tan is out of a bottle. And second, did you know that even if you don’t burn, you can still have serious skin damage?

Sunlight is made up of two types of harmful rays: long wave ultraviolet A (UVA) and short wave ultraviolet B (UVB). Those tricky little UVB rays are the ones that cause a sunburn, but those sneaky little UVA rays? They don’t burn us…gulp. They age us! So even if you think you can’t burn, you certainly can get a wrinkle or two. And even if you aren’t a big fan of sunscreen, try using a CBD cream or something similar to soothe that sunburn on your skin. They may even help heal the skin better, preventing wrinkles as well. Although you’d have to try it out to know for sure, and what I know works for me is sunscreen.

It can also be essential to detox the whole body regularly since that can help with a better immune system, metabolism, and anti-aging. You can add supplements like glutathione or other similar products to your daily necessities to help you to achieve rejuvenated, wrinkle-free, clear, and glowing skin. Moreover, you can adopt additional skincare products for a beach day to prevent your skin from harm.

I recommend using a natural, mineral sunscreen containing zinc. Most SPFs are made of harmful chemicals and you don’t necessarily want to put that on your skin either, so check those labels. Coola has a mineral suncare line that I love. It’s kinda pricey at around $36 a bottle, but it works like a charm.

Post sun treatment at the end of a fabulous beach day.

This three-letter word is one you’re really going to love: spa. A day in the sun is the perfect excuse to spend some time getting pampered with a glass of champagne in hand. Some Florida resorts offer treatments specially designed to soothe and repair burnt skin. Try the 40 minute “Florida Post Sun Treatment” ($80) at Clearwater Beach Marriott Suites on Sand Key.

Or if you want to bathe your skin in the lap of luxury, try a hydrafacial. According to the experts, it’s the perfect post sun treatment. “The hydrafacial is one of the most incredible, results-driven facial experiences you can have,” says Natalee Lynch, Area Spa Director for SiSpa at the Palm Beach Marriott Singer Island Beach Resort & Spa and the Fort Lauderdale Marriott Pompano Beach Resort & Spa.

Natalee says there’s zero downtime and it helps with sun damage, fine lines, large pores and dehydrated skin. And it leaves your skin unbelievably supple with an almost satin-like finish. Sounds heavenly. SiSpa offers 20-, 50- and 80-minute sessions ranging from $195 to $475 per treatment.

Alternatively, you can also look for skin reviving derma methods like Vivace for healthy rejuvenated skin or silhouette instalift, which is a non-surgical method to treat facial droopy appearance. You could also check out facial discoloration treatment provided by a cosmetic dermatologist that can aid you in removing your overly tanned appearance after a beach day. Moreover, these treatments can help with the aging process, reduce wrinkles and fine lines as well as improve your skin’s self-healing process so that you can enjoy more beaches and sun without worrying about skin issues.

These skincare methods can also be beneficial for people enjoying a pool day at their house. For instance, if you have a swimming pool at your house, you can remodel it to incorporate a spa and hot tub in it for future use. You can approach a local pool builder to get information on the necessary costings and other requirements. You may also be interested in additional features such as outdoor living and firepit, custom decking, etc., which can enhance your spa experience. Plus you can pamper yourself with these added features whenever you desire.

So next time you hit the beach, don’t forget the two little “S” words we talked about today: SPF and spa. Enjoy the Florida sunshine!
