Where to Stay: Diplomat Resort & Spa in Hollywood
When was the last time you visited Hollywood? Not Tinseltown. I’m talking about that charming beachfront town located just south of Fort Lauderdale.
While Hollywood in Florida was named after the one in California back in the 1920s, the two towns are very different. And there’s a gorgeous beachfront hotel with a storied past that I’m excited to reintroduce you to.
Diplomat Resort & Spa Hollywood, Curio Collection by Hilton
The original Diplomat hotel opened in the 1950s and played host to a wide range of movie stars, performing artists and political heavy hitters. Judy Garland played at the hotel’s Café Crystal. Sammy Davis, Jr. and Liza Minnelli performed their first joint concert at the property. The Kennedy family attended the John F.Kennedy Memorial Ball at the hotel. And the list goes on.
Today the Diplomat is part of Hilton’s Curio Collection, a group of 22 independent hotels worldwide that each reflect part of the fabric of the cities they call home. And the Diplomat is the only Curio brand hotel in Florida. Hilton is in the process of spending $100 million to enhance the already beautiful property. And I’m excited to partner with them to give away a free two-night stay at the hotel. Almost lost my hat capturing the photo below!
It’s a big hotel, soaring sky high and towering over the South Florida coastline. Some people come just for the view (it’s easy to see why).
People flock to the resort for it’s proximity to the beach. It’s a popular choice for groups and families because it’s spacious enough that you don’t feel crowded.
There are more than 1,000 rooms and the majority of them feature sweeping views of either the Atlantic Ocean or the Intracoastal Waterway. Inside you’ll find a comfy bed, refrigerator, coffee maker and tasteful decor.
The balcony is a great place to find solace either in the morning for sunrise or in the afternoon where you’re surrounded by dramatic hues of green and blue.
The multiple beachfront pools offer a serene respite for those looking to catch some rays and cool off with a swim. There’s an infinity pool that actually sits on a second level above the beachside pools.
And there’s a window in the bottom of that pool that lets you look into the one below. Imagine the photo shoots you could stage here…
The resort has a wide range of dining options. Start with a casual breakfast at the café and then lunch at Splash Bar & Grill by the pool.
Of course, the beach is the main attraction. It’s not uncommon to see surfers on this part of the coast, where waves are bigger than farther down south in Miami.
Or maybe going for a romantic stroll is more your style. There’s not a better feeling than wiggling your toes in the sand.
There are plenty of cocktail options for happy hour and you won’t want to miss out on a steak dinner at the AAA Four-Diamond rated Diplomat Prime.
The hotel is a popular choice for families because of the kid’s club and wide range of activities–everything from kayaking and beach volleyball to a full-service spa and fishing charters.
And the hotel is just a five-minute walk from Hollywood’s historic oceanfront Broadwalk. Yep, it’s “broadwalk” not “boardwalk” for all of you spelling bee champs out there.
